Some quick thoughts on Life Lessons:
People tend to find that for which they are searching – and the heart usually dictates what they seek.
Many of the most self proclaimed people of “love and acceptance” find nothing but contempt for others with a different opinion. Why? Because their mind loves the concept of love and acceptance, but their hearts can’t follow.
Quitting a job: When my ego was no longer being fed at my last job, I became disenfranchised with it and began seeing all the reasons I should leave. It truly wasn’t until recently that I could review what happened and see the true underlying reason I desired to quit my job…ego. I saw and found many things to substantiate my feelings…which I was completely unaware of at the time. It truly takes personal digging and a humble spirit to see the real root. Had I stayed, I believe I would have been highly rewarded on many levels.
Ending love: The same applies to most marriages. It becomes mundane, the romance is gone, and real work becomes required to keep it together. We feel lost and our hearts just aren’t in it anymore. We may look around and compare our marriage to others but our perspective only allows us to see the “harvest” of their working relationship – rarely the effort that was exerted by both parties to reap that harvest. So everything we see begins to substantiate our desire for divorce. We don’t even realize we are “looking” for it – but we are.
Looking for love: We see everything that is wonderful with another (looking through rose colored glasses) and do not see the red flags (things we do NOT want to see).
Looking for God: Matthew 7:8 …”everyone who seeks shall find. “ I believe this is true. Not just a casual seeker, but someone who is actively seeking.
Looking for proof on NO God: Science, rationalized thought.
What is at the “heart” of the matter? Why are we seeing what we are seeing? How does it serve us? My personal belief is that is boils down to the heart of a person. What guides them? This is why I had a heart tattooed on my back: ESV 1 Samuel 16:7 ….”For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart”.
When we are looking for love, excuses, justifications, or anything at all regardless of being positive or negative...we can scratch the surface by choosing to look at things simply...or dive deep to ponder the heart of the matter. THAT is where I have found a person realizes their motivation.
